Chevrolet unveiled the Corvette ZR1 a couple months ago, and it surprised the world with its supercar killing performance. This ZR1 is the only Corvette that comes factory turbocharged and produces a whopping 1064 horsepower coming from a mid mounted twin-turbo V8. Design and Bodystyles

The new ZR1 comes in two distinct bodystyles, a coupe and a convertible, with the both having a roof constructed out of carbon - fiber. The new car has a split window design, one that was last seen on C2  generation cars. The car has also been given a pass - through hood to further increase downforce, as well as an optional giant wing on the back. This car has circular quad exhausts in the back, just like most of its predecessors do. The ceramic brake rotors are also the largest to be even installed on a production Corvette, with them being 15.7 inches in the front and 15.4 inches in the back. To fit these giant brakes, the Corvette ZR1 has 20 inch wheels in the front and 21 inch wheels on the back, paired with a huge tires measuring 275/30ZR20 in the front and 345/25ZR21 in the rear.

Powertrain

The Corvette ZR1 is the most powerful Corvette yet thanks to the LT7 gasoline engine, a mid mounted flat - plane twin turbo 5.5 liter V8 capable of producing 1064 horsepower and 828 pound feet of torque. The LT7 is a modified version of the LT6 in the C8 ZO6, but with enough changes that it was given its own name. This engine has unique ports and a larger combustion chamber than the LT6 and an intake system specifically designed for turbochargers. It also sports larger connecting rods and pins, as well as counterweights for the unique piston. Each engine is hand - build by a master engine builder at Chevrolet's performance centre, and revs to a 8000 rpm redline. Peak power is produced at 7000 rpm and maximum torque at 6000. The powerful engine of the ZR1 is paired with a  dual clutch 8 - speed transmission, but beefed up to increase the power by 60% compared to the ZO6. Chevrolet claims that this ZR1 can rocket from 0 - 60 in 2.3 seconds, and complete the standing 1/4 mile in 9.6 seconds at 150 miles per hour. The top speed of the ZR1 is claimed to be 233 miles per hour, higher than that of even many hypercars.

The interior of the ZR1 is similar to most other Corvettes, but it includes a few exclusive elements. The cars still has a 12 inch digital gauge cluster and with the 8 inch infotainment screen tilted toward the driver. The steering wheel is flattened on the top and on the bottom and the ZR1 badge is inlayed into it. It can be wrapped in microfiber or suede, but only on the 3ZL The ZR1 has based sill plates and custom steering wheel graphics, and the 3ZL trim has exclusive geometric designs on the doorplates. The ZR1 comes standard with GT2 bucket seats and can be specced with competition sport seats trimmed with nappa leather.

Overall the new Corvette does seem to be a supercar killer, both in terms of speed, power and price. The new ZR1 keeps the V8 powertrain Corvettes are so famous for, while adopting a new turbocharging technology to create the most powerful production American supercar.
