The all - new Audi A6 Avant

Audi unveiled the new A6 Avant earlier today, a modern mid - size station wagon that was redesigned from the ground up. Audi is currently in the process of updating models, such as the A5 replacing the A4 earlier this year. Only the Avant version has been revealed, with the sedan coming a little later. The US market won't get the Avant, it will come as the A6 allroad just like its predecessor, though it will come with many of the same features.

Styling and Exterior

The A6 Avant looks similar to our current A6 at first glance, but under closer inspection, we can see that the new car has a large grille that is positioned between two large vents at each side of the car. The car has grown by a bit over 2 inches and the wheelbase has been lengthened by 1/8 of an inch . The body is actually slimmer than the outgoing model, and it has decreased by 1/4 of an inch. This sleek design and the sharp indentations molded into the chassis allows the car to get a coefficient of drag of up to 0.25, being the lowest of petrol Audi vehicles. The headlights and taillights have been completely remodelled, and they have been filled with the LEDs that Audi is slowly perfecting. The rear of the car has been fitted with rectangular exhaust pipe tips, just like the outgoing model.

Powertrain and 48 - Volt hybrid

Three powertrains have been unveiled, but only one of the three might be available in the US. European models get a turbocharged 2.0 liter diesel 4 cylinder, putting out 204 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque (295 lb-ft) using the MHEV+ mild hybrid system. The inline 4 petrol engine does not have the mild hybrid system, and relies solely on a combustion engine with 204 horsepower and 340 Nm-of torque (251 lb-ft). The 3.0 liter V6 will likely come to the US, this engine has 367 horsepower and 406 pound feet of torque (550 Nm), also boosted by the MHEV+ hybrid system. Even though a 4 cylinder variant for the US market hasn't been announced yet, we speculate that it might have the same engine as the new A5 with 268 horsepower and 295 pound feet of torque.

High-Tech Interior

The A6 will get inspiration from its other siblings in the Audi lineup, with three screen available and metal trim on the dashboard. The gauge cluster and the 14.5 inch touchscreen are slightly curved to wrap around the driver. A 10.9 inch screen is fitted for the passenger and a head - up display is also optional. A high end Bang & Olufsen speaker system will be installed in every A6 and it includes a panoramic moonroof above. Rear wheel steering will also come to the A6 as a part of the Quattro all - wheel drive system and adaptive air suspension. As always, the car will come standard with a 360 degree camera and parking assist plus.

The inline four A6 starts at 57,400 euros in Germany, which is the equivalent of around 61,000 US dollars as of March 4, 2025. We expect the inline four variant to start at around 60,000 US dollars and the more powerful Quattro V6 to start at upward of 75,000 US dollars.
